Roughly 20% of the grand duchy’s population is aged 60 or over.
That’s according to data published by Statec, the national statistics bureau, on 30 September.
Life expectancy is 80 for men and 84.5 for women. The oldest woman was aged 110 and the oldest man was 111 years old, as of 1 January 2019.
About two-thirds of seniors are Luxembourgers and one-third are foreign nationals, Statec said.
55% of seniors reported seeing members of their family (who live in a different household) on a daily or weekly basis; 70% see family members “several times a month”. 49% said they saw friends “every day or once a week” and 75% reported meeting up with friends “several times a month”.
