Foreign minister Jean Asselborn (LSAP) said on Monday afternoon that everything was being done to repatriate the 300 Luxembourgers still abroad.
Many of them are in Cuba and some in Costa Rica where they had been holidaying. A plane is stationed in Cape Verde in readiness to bring people home. Asselborn appealed for EU leaders to keep airports open for charter flights, even if airlines themselves had ceased operating scheduled routes. Her also argued that closing internal borders in the Schengen area was “not what Europe stands for.”
